Well we all know that all activities carry additional costs the longer that we stay involved with them and for good reason. However at Apex we try to control many of the costs upfront for new students until you determine how serious you are about it.
A study was done and it was determined that over the course of their career the average black belt has spent roughly $15,000 in training, equipment, travel, books and more. In the same study a survey was done where each black belt was asked if they were offered $500,000.00 to take a pill or undergo a treatment where all of their memories and skills were of the martial arts were removed would they take it. unanimously the answer was no.... and the answer didn't change as proposed amounts were increased to $1,000,000 and even $10,000,000. The point was that our experiences are worth far more than the money we spend to acheive them.
Testing Fees: $50.00 paid in advance of the exam. (Yellow - Brown belt)
Association fees: $30.00 ($20 renewal) for registering with the American Okinawan Karate Association.(AOKA) the national standards board for Isshin Ryu Karate.
Sparring Gear: $75 (average) students may participate in sparring classes once they earn their Yellow belt, but are not required to participate. (however at green belt it is a requirement that all students study and participate in sparring so as to understand it and teach it later.)
Arnis Sticks $30/set - Sticks are a fundamental part of a student's training while we have sticks in-house for student's to borrow as needed, by orange belt or first green all student's should have their own set of sticks.
Jo (short staff) $20 - required at orange belt the jo is a short staff made of rattan or oak - other materials are not recommended due to splintering
Bo (long staff) $30 - required at blue belt - the bo is the classic martial arts weapon and is the height of the user. (a case will generally cost about $10 additional and is highly recommended)
Gear bag $30 (average) - to help students stat organized a good gear bag is recommended - on with a length of at least 26" is a grat idea because it will allow room for weapons
Tonfa $25/pair - required at 2nd green - tonfa are specialized training weapons
Sai $70/pair - required at purple belt - sai are highly personal weapons and are very good when shared. A case id definitely recommended an will run around $15.00
Tournaments $60 (average) - while we are not a "competition" school, we will generally attend a couple tournaments a year for fun. Students are not required to attend tournaments in general, but should participate in at least one tournament by blue belt.
Seminars $40 (average) - Apex offers a number of seminar opportunities to its students some may be as little as $15.00 while others could be $60.00 the only thing that's for sure, is that it's always a great experience.
